About Our Classes
We offer semiannual online classes in Middle Welsh through the Microsoft Teams platform, meeting for two hours each week for a total of ten meetings across roughly ten weeks (with occasional gaps to accommodate the instructor’s schedule, holidays, and so on).
The ten-week sessions usually begin with a general overview of important points of grammar; exercises are provided and reviewed at the beginning of each subsequent meeting to reinforce the points reviewed. All necessary materials are included but a list of additional helpful purchases will be distributed to students early in the session.
These classes are open to any interested learners; there are no specific prerequisites but a general familiarity with language learning (of any language) and the Middle Ages in general are helpful.
How Much Does It Cost?
We believe in transparency in pricing. The standard consulting/teaching rate for a PhD is $40/hr. The class will meet for two hours each week. It is standard in university-level teaching to assume two hours of preparation for each hour of a class meeting. Therefore, we assume six hours of total time each week for ten weeks for a total of forty hours: that comes to $1600. Adding in reasonable overhead for administrative time and materials, we arrive at $1800: divided by fifteen students, that yields a price of $174 per student per class.
